The chronicler staff were given the opportunity to interview a team leader of accreditors, Prof. Glory Jean G. Leonin. Chronicler Staff: How long have you been an accreditor? Prof. Leonin: Way back 2013 around 3 years. Chronicler Staff: In your opinion, how important is the accreditation? Prof. Leonin: It's really important. It signifies the fiscal, which means that when you are being accredited that increases the budget. Actually, that's the main reason why, because if the recommendations of the accreditors are for improvement of the curriculum that entails funding, that entails fiscal. So that's a big help with the budget of the university. So if the budget is higher the more opportunities for facilities, the more opportunities for training, the more opportunities for other related activities like research, extension. Students and faculties has the opportunity to travel that includes administration so you can have exchange, scholars, visiting other places, and your competencies and technicalities for certain profession. It's really important. Chronicler Staff: In your opinion, how important being an accreditor is? Prof. Leonin: Being an accreditor, that's two way for me. One, I will be of help to the institution and the university to be accredited. At the same manner, I am also learning as a person. As an accreditor, I will see things which I cannot find in my own institution that can be the best practices and the good practices that I can use or emmulate. Chronicler Staff: Based on what you have observed so far, do you think that this selected programs have the credentials to be accredited? Prof. Leonin: Well, I cannot say how because we didn't start yet.... Chronicler Staff: What would be your message to all those included in this accreditation. Prof. Leonin: First and foremost, I have to say I salute them for their efforts that they did who have the courage and be motivated to improve this accreditation process and whatever are the recommendations and suggestions that the accreditations or accrediting team. Well, they should be happy about it because that is for the improvement of the institution. Chronicler Staff: What would be your message to the BaSC president. Prof. Leonin: You are very humble president. Being a very visionary president is really good. I've been here for 2 years accrediting already and the visions that he has for the college is very big to become a university. That is why, I understand sir, that if possible all programs can be accredited so that you will turn into a university. That's a big funding, more students can benefit, more proffesional. That's a big history to Basilan Province. So your (interviewer) future children can be accomodated. So sir is really a visionary person, have the courage to make the Basilan State College to a university.
